Ever sat down with a pile of papers and embellishments, ready to create a card… and then nothing happens? No ideas, no direction—just a blank card staring back at you?
One simple way to break through that creative block is to use a card sketch.
I find that basic sketches are the easiest to work with. They give you a starting point—helping you decide where to place elements—while still leaving plenty of room for creativity. Your choice of papers, colours, and embellishments will guide the final look, so every card still feels unique.
For example, I started with this simple sketch and used it to create three different cards. The first card stays quite true to the original design, but as I continued, I found myself experimenting more. Each card became a little less dependent on the sketch and more influenced by the materials and ideas that emerged along the way.
